Malaysia Sees Explosive Thirty One Percent Growth In Foreign Arrivals, Cementing Its Status As Asia’s Most Loved Destination

Malaysia, recognized as Asia’s top travel destination, saw an influx of 6.7 million international visitors in the first two months of this year, a remarkable 31.3% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge also marks a 14.5% growth compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, as highlighted by Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, in a report by The Star.

Singapore remained the leading source of tourists, contributing 3.1 million arrivals. Other top visitors came from China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei.

In 2024, Malaysia achieved a significant milestone with 38 million tourist arrivals, including excursionists, reflecting a robust 31.1% growth from the 29 million recorded in 2023.

In 2024, Malaysia earned the title of Asia’s most beloved country. To stay competitive with neighboring Thailand, Malaysia has decided to extend its visa-free entry policy for travelers from China and India until 2026.

Meanwhile, Thailand saw 9.5 million international visitors in the first quarter of this year, reflecting a modest 1.91% year-on-year increase, with safety concerns and the repercussions of the recent Myanmar earthquake impacting tourism growth.

Vietnam also experienced a significant tourism influx, welcoming over 6 million visitors during the same period.
